After months of preparations, we have finally started the first Foresteer project in Siwa, Egypt. In Siwa, we will be creating very our first Green Spot.
Siwa, Egypt
We have chosen to start in Siwa, which is located between the Qattara Depression and the Great Sand Sea in the Western Desert in Egypt. This is approximately 50 km east of the Libyan border, and 560 km away from the sprawling capital of Egypt, Cairo.
Characteristics of the Siwa Green Spot
The goal of each Foresteer project is the same: to Green the World by planting trees with local communities. However, each specific project is different and needs a tailored approach depending on the country, land characteristics, access to water & local communities.
Key characteristics of our first Green Spot in Siwa are:
Solar energy is generated and used for the maintenance of the Green Spot(s)
We only use natural fertilizers and locally produced products
Water that is required for tree maintenance will be taken out of a deep well
Foresteer Egypt will mainly focus on permaculture
Local communities are the custodians of our trees
We do not just plant trees. We want future generations to be able to benefit from it as well. In order to do this, our trees need to be taken care of. This is done by local communities, the custodians of our trees. The fruits of our trees go to the custodians of our trees and any profits are directly reinvested into (new) Foresteer projects.
Duplication Model: From One Green Spot to Many
Key to Foresteers project is the Duplication Model. This means that we want to repeat our projects as often as possible. Through the creation of the Siwa Green Spot, other Green Spots in Egypt will be created.
More Than Planting Trees
Our Green Spot in Egypt is more than a place where we plant trees – it’s a community. Alongside planting trees, we will make sure that people are able to visit the Green Spot and take a break from city life. Our partners in Egypt will also create:
- Dedicated spaces for meditation and yoga in nature
- Nurseries where you can find seeds and knowledge about how to plant these seeds, when to plant these seeds and how to take care of them.
- A community where you can be surrounded by likeminded people
